Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, citing "relentless attacks on our democratic institutions" urged people to "live up to American values."
Yates' comments came in a Tuesday morning tweet.
The Hill noted Yates was appointed deputy attorney general by President Barack Obama and later was named acting attorney general.
Her tweet came a year after President Donald Trump fired her for refusing to implement his initial travel ban, according to The Hill.
It also followed Andrew McCabe's decision to step down as deputy director of the FBI amid criticism from Trump and Republican lawmakers in Washington.
