Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life and legacy was a guiding light for American women who dared to break the glass ceiling in their own lives and work.
On Friday night, some of those women hinted at the deep impression the jurist made in their lives — and the loss of her remarkable voice.
Mostly, there were thanks.
"Justice Ginsburg paved the way for so many women, including me," former first lady, Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton tweeted. "There will never be another like her. Thank you RBG."
"The View" co-host Meghan McCain, whose late father Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was the GOP presidential nominee in 2008, also credited Ginsburg's far-reaching influence.
"Rest in peace Ruth Bader Ginsburg – a true legend, an iconoclast, a glass ceiling breaker, and a feminist icon," McCain tweeted. "She changed the world in so many incredible ways. Prayers, love and strength to her family during this dark time."
McCain added a happy wish for Ginsberg, who maintained a strong personal bond with her ideologically polar opposite on the Supreme Court, the last Justice Antonin Scalia.
"I hope you have fun with Antonin Scalia in heaven," she wrote.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., hailed Ginsburg as a hero.
"An icon. A hero. A woman way ahead of her time," she tweeted.
One of Ginsburg's memorable comments on a woman's place in high places came when she recounted: "When I'm sometimes asked when will there be enough [women on the Supreme Court] and I say, 'When there are nine,' people are shocked. But there'd been nine men, and nobody's ever raised a question about that."
Congressional Librarian Carla Hayden was also influenced by Ginsburg's trailblazing zeal.
"Sad night," she tweeted. "Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a hero in every sense, who fought for equality and justice with grace and persistence. On the first night of Rosh Hashana, we remember a gentle but unyielding spirit, who inspired us to question the barriers to justice for all."
U.S. women's soccer heroine Megan Rapinoe called Ginsburg's death "devastating" and "an incalculable loss."
"We owe so much to RBG," she tweeted.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., also lauded Ginsburg's extraordinary impact on America.
"Ruth Bader Ginsburg lived an extraordinary life. She fought to ensure equal protection in our laws, fearlessly dissented and defended, and was a powerful role model for us all," Gillibrand tweeted. "I'm devastated to hear of her passing. Thank you, Justice Ginsburg. Rest in power."
