Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh on Monday fired back at President Barack Obama for saying Limbaugh and some commentators on Fox News contributed to partisanship during his eight years in the White House, calling the remarks "kind of a crock," Mediaite reports.

"The ability of Republican leaders to rile up their base, helped along by folks like Rush Limbaugh and some commentators on Fox News, I think created an environment in which Republican voters would punish Republicans for cooperating with me," Obama said during an interview with NBC News last week.

The president reiterated that notion during an interview with "60 Minutes," which aired on CBS on Sunday, saying he was surprised by the severity of partisanship in Washington.

"I will confess that I didn't fully appreciate the ways in which individual senators or members of Congress now are pushed to the extremes by their voter bases," Obama told Steve Kroft over the course of a one-hour interview, his final one as president. "I did not expect, particularly in the midst of crisis, just how severe that partisanship would be."

Limbaugh said Obama putting any blame on him was a "crock."

"I'm never there. I'm a guy on the radio," Limbaugh said on his show, "The Rush Limbaugh Show."

"Admittedly, a powerful, influential member of the media guy on the radio. But nevertheless I'm not there. But the noteworthy thing here is how he exempts himself from any of the reasons for partisanship."
