In a rousing speech ahead of Melania Trump's keynote address on the opening night of the Republican National Convention, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani had the crowd on its feet shouting, "USA! USA!"

Giuliani said he has known Donald Trump for decades and that "this is a very good and decent man, and he will be a great president."

The former mayor said Trump often asked to help law enforcement, but asked that it not be made known.

"Well, I am going to break my promise to him. I am going to mention it," he said. "This is a man with a big heart who loves people, all people, from the top to the bottom, from the middle to the side! I am telling you this because I am sick and tired of the defamation of Donald Trump by the media and by the Clinton campaign. I am sick and tired of it. This is a good man!"

Giuliani also slammed the Obama administration for refusing to use the term "radical Islam" in the war on terror.

"We must not be afraid to define our enemy. It is Islamic extremist terrorism!" he shouted.

"For the purposes of the media, I did not say all of Islam. I did not say most of Islam. I said Islamic extremist terrorism. You know who you are! And we're coming to get you!"

Giuliani also slammed the Iran nuclear deal, saying that it will eventually allow the country to become a nuclear power and is putting billions of dollars back into a country that's the world's largest supporter of terrorism.

"We are actually giving them the money to fund the terrorists who are killing us and our allies!" he shouted. "We are giving them the money. Are we crazy?"

Hillary Clinton, Trump's Democratic foe in November, lied to the families of the Benghazi victims, "right to their face!" he added.

"Who would trust Hillary Clinton to protect them?" he asked. "I wouldn't. Would you?"
