Rove’s Conservative Victory Project to Take Anonymous Donations

By    |   Thursday, 07 February 2013 12:48 PM EST

The new campaign group rooted in GOP political strategist Karl Rove’s American Crossroads super PAC will include an arm that accepts anonymous donations.

The Conservative Victory Project is designed to spend money in Republican primaries against candidates the group doesn’t believe can win in general elections, according to Politico.

The project will include a super PAC that discloses contributions and a tax-exempt group that won't have to, Politico reports. Some GOP donors may not want it known that they gave money to squelch a fellow Republican.

Rove has cited losing 2012 tea party Senate contenders Todd Akin in Missouri and Richard Mourdock in Indiana as examples of candidates his group would like to defeat.

“This is a bad idea whose time has come,” former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour wrote of the Conservative Victory Project, according to an email to potential backers from the group’s chief, Steven Law.

But Matt Kibbe, president of tea party group FreedomWorks, begs to differ. “This is a little bit like gang warfare right now,” he told Newsmax Tuesday.

Rove claims that’s not the case. “This is not tea party versus the establishment,” he said on Fox News Tuesday. “I don’t want a fight.”
