Allegations of improper conduct that have surfaced involving President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs are being reviewed by members of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee,  CNN reported Monday night.

According to The Washington Post, the Wednesday confirmation hearing for Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson has now been delayed while the review is underway.

"There are reasons, as there are with every presidential appointee, for very close scrutiny and vetting," Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., told CNN. "We need to know if allegations raised by others may have some factual basis. That's the process of vetting that has to occur."

Aides to committee chairman Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., declined to comment to the Post on the issue.

A tweet from a CBS News correspondent said that the allegations involve a "hostile work environment, excessive drinking on the job and improperly dispensing medication."

Jackson was a surprise nominee to succeed David Shulkin, whom Trump fired March 28 amid an ethics scandal and tensions with political appointees within in the agency.

An administration official told CNN that Trump has faith in his nominee and has no reason to believe his confirmation is in jeopardy, CNN reported.
