Super PAC Spending Keeps Romney Afloat in Swing States

Tuesday, 24 July 2012 11:23 AM EDT

Super PACs are keeping Mitt Romney in the game in swing states, spending $144 million and keeping the GOP standard bearer ahead of spending by President Barack Obama. About 80 percent of all ad spending by Republicans in the general election has come from super PACs, The Washington Post’s political blog The Fix reported.

Romney has spent just $35 million in the swing states. In comparison, Democratically aligned super PACs have spent just $20 million, representing 19 percent of total ad spending. Romney and outside groups have spent a total of $179 million on ads in the swing states while Obama and his supporters have spent $128 million, the Post reported.

The spending by outside groups has allowed Romney to stay in the game while his campaign has recovered by an expensive GOP primary fight, the Post noted.
