If President Barack Obama loses six states that he won in 2008, there’s a slight chance he and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney could tie at 269 votes each in the Electoral College, according to
Politico.
The six are Florida, Indiana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.
But Politico points out one dubious element in that scenario: It assumes Obama would gain one
electoral vote in Nebraska, as he did four years ago. That seems unlikely if he loses those the other eight states, Politico reports.
Although an Electoral College tie is unlikely, the country is clearly divided in its political views, as illustrated by the change of House control in two of the last three elections.
So a tie certainly isn’t impossible.
