Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney was a strong rival of ultimate nominee John McCain in the 2008 campaign. But now it looks like the former Massachusetts governor will follow a similar path to the Arizona senator in his approach to the primaries,
Politico reports.
Romney has slipped to second in several polls behind Texas Gov. Rick Perry, just as McCain fell to the middle of the pack in 2007 polls.
Financial constraints led McCain to shrink his campaign and devote his early attention almost entirely to the New Hampshire primary.
And it looks like Romney too will stick all his early eggs in the New Hampshire basket.
He’s virtually ignoring Iowa — the nation’s first primary/caucus state — and South Carolina, which is No. 4.
Those two states are less friendly to moderates like Romney and McCain.
