Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, on Sunday warned the “world is watching” as President Donald Trump and his team pursue “destructive” allegations of corruption and fraud in an election in which challenger Joe Biden cinched victory.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Romney said he understands why Trump has refused to concede.
“There are recounts that will go on,” he said. “You have states [where] the margins are 10,000 and other states it's 20,000 and 30,000. When the numbers are that low, there is a potential for a reversal. I understand why the president wants to keep on fighting.”
But he warned the accusations of fraud or corruption are dangerous.
"I do believe, however, it's destructive … to the cause of democracy to suggest widespread fraud or corruption. There is just no evidence of that at this stage. And I think it's important for us to recognize that the world is watching.”
