President Donald Trump on Friday said that sitting down for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller would be "a big waste of time," despite expressing openness to the idea, The Hill reports.
Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he’d "do it, but under certain circumstances," but also said that "it’s a big waste of time. There was no collusion."
He added, "It’s such a sad thing for our country to be going through a witch hunt like that. It’s so hard for us to deal with other countries including Russia because of that witch hunt. … It endangers our country. It puts us at a big disadvantage all because of the rigged phony witch hunt."
The president’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, told Politico Thursday that Trump’s legal team are "very opposed" to a face-to-face interview, but said that they aren’t "closing it off 100 percent."
