Christie Chosen as RGA Vice Chairman

By    |   Wednesday, 07 September 2011 01:57 PM EDT

Anyone worried that the Republican Governors Association would lose its star power when Rick Perry of Texas stepped down as chairman last month to run for president need worry no more. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has been named vice chairman of the RGA.

Christie replaces Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, who ascended to the top position after Perry left. The RGA also has promoted Wisconsin’s Scott Walker to the executive committee.

Many Republicans have urged Christie to run for president, but he insists that he won’t. Christie already had a leadership role on the RGA, serving as policy vice chairman. Walker, who is in a rough fight with Democrats in his home state, fills the executive committee slot vacated by Perry.
