Big September Haul for Pro-Romney Super PAC

Saturday, 20 October 2012 10:04 AM EDT

Super PAC money poured into Mitt Romney’s campaign coffers in September and gave his campaign fuel to flood airwaves and mail boxes with advertisements for the final stretch of the presidential campaign.

Restore Our Future, the pro-Romney super PAC, raked in major contributions from donors in September, including $2 million from Texas homebuilder Bob Perry, $1 million from Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, and $1 million from the chairman of Missouri-based Herzog Contracting, Stanley Herzog, Politico reports.

Florida-based Oxbow Carbon, run by William Koch, also contributed $1 million.

The super PAC is planning to buy $12 million in advertising in nine crucial states next week to boost Republican candidate Romney in the final sprint to Election Day, according to USA Today.

All told, the super PAC had $16.5 million in reserve headed into October, after taking in $14.8 million in September. Super PACs can accept unlimited corporate and union money. However, they cannot coordinate their advertising with candidates.

The money was quickly put to use in the first couple weeks of October, with the  $10 million spent attacking President Barack Obama in ads, Politico reported.
