Republican operatives have created a new super PAC — Reclaiming Freedom PAC — seeking to garner $10 million to insure the party regains control of the Senate.
The money will be put to work in only three to five pivotal Senate contests to get maximum bang for the buck, Brian Wise, the PAC’s founder, told
Politico.
“This isn’t us trying to target 30 different races. This is us finding the three to five different races that will get the GOP to 51 come November,” he said. “Our main goal is to get Harry Reid out of the majority leader position in the Senate.” Republicans need a net pick-up of four seats to regain their Senate majority.
So far the PAC has endorsed Minnesota Republican Pete Hegseth, as he seeks to oust Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., as he works to beat back the challenge of Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley.
Wise declined to reveal whom the PAC plans to solicit for money. He said Reclaiming Freedom will have a broader operation than groups like American Crossroads that are focusing on TV ads. Reclaiming Freedom’s efforts will include targeted mail, digital outreach, and grass-roots organizing.
The PAC may get involved in Republican primaries, Wise said. But it is unlikely to intervene in the Utah race that includes Sen. Orrin Hatch. “We don’t expect to play in that race mostly because it doesn’t reflect a race that we believe will change the count in the Senate,” he said.
