Beleaguered Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain leads Mitt Romney among likely GOP primary voters in Florida, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.
Former businessman Cain, whose campaign has been roiled with sexual harassment complaints dating to the 1990s, snagged 30 percent support in the Nov. 8 Rasmussen telephone survey of 788 likely voters, compared with former Massachusetts Gov. Romney’s 24 percent.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich finished third with 19 percent. No other candidate picked up double-digit support, including Texas Gov. Rick Perry, at 4 percent. Texas Rep. Ron Paul and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann had 3 percent apiece.
Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman followed with 2 percent, while former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum had 1 percent.
Meanwhile, in South Carolina, Cain trailed Romney 20 to 22 percent in Clemson University’s Palmetto Poll released on Wednesday. More than two-thirds of the 600 likely GOP primary voters in South Carolina said they had not decided which GOP candidate they will support.
“This indicates the election is still fluid,” Clemson political scientist Bruce Ransom told The State newspaper.
Gingrich had 10 percent support, while Perry had 9 percent in the South Carolina poll. Paul and Bachman each pulled 3 percent, while Santorum and Huntsman trailed with 1 percent each.
