Russian President Vladimir Putin is grateful for the damage being done to the FBI and the CIA by President Donald Trump's actions, Rep. Jim Himes tweeted on Saturday.
The Connecticut Democrat, responding to a tweet from the president earlier in the morning, also took offense with Trump's comment about the House Intelligence Committee finding there was no collusion between the president's campaign and Russia.
"As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I assure you, it has not concluded that there was no collusion," Himes, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said. "Not even close. We do see daily the damage you are doing to FBI and CIA. Putin thanks his lucky stars."
Earlier on Saturday, Trump had tweeted that "as the House Intelligence Committee has concluded, there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump Campaign. As many are now finding out, however, there was tremendous leaking, lying and corruption at the highest levels of the FBI, Justice & State. #DrainTheSwamp"
This past week, Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee moved to end the panel's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and announced that no collusion had occurred.
Committee Democrats, though, say they will continue the investigation.
Himes' comments about the FBI came the day after Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe just two days shy of his retirement. Sessions said McCabe had leaked information to the press and misled investigators, which he has denied.
