The former Atlanta police officer accused of killing Rayshard Brooks has sued the city’s mayor and interim police chief over his firing, reports Fox News.

Garrett Rolfe, who currently faces 11 charges, including felony murder, for shooting Brooks on June 12 as he was fleeing police custody, in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Fulton County Superior Court insists he was “fired without an investigation, without proper notice, without a disciplinary hearing, and in direct violation of the municipal code of the City of the Atlanta.”

The lawsuit names Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant as defendants.

Police were called to a Wendy’s in Atlanta over complaints of a car blocking the drive-thru lane. They found Brooks asleep behind the wheel. A breath test showed he was intoxicated.

After a long, relatively calm conversation between officers and Brooks, things turned rapidly violent when officers tried to handcuff him.

Rolfe shot Brooks after Brooks grabbed a taser and ran.
