Rand Paul: Hillary 'Clearly Broke the Law' Using Private Emails

By    |   Sunday, 15 March 2015 06:17 PM EDT

Hillary Clinton "clearly broke the law" by using a private email system stored on her own server while she was secretary of state, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul told Breitbart News.

Others have said Clinton broke the law in keeping government emails under her own control, but Paul is the first in the likely 2016 Republican presidential field to do so, Breitbart noted.

But Paul said it won't be easy to prosecute Clinton, who still is by far the favored Democratic presidential nominee in 2016.

"I think she’ll stonewall and she’ll stonewall and she’ll try to prevent any release of any of the emails," Paul told the website. "but I think there needs to be an independent investigation."

Clinton kept the emails on her server for two years after leaving the State Department, then had her staff go through them to determine which were public records and which were private. That has left her open to allegations she could have selectively deleted any emails she didn't want seen.
