Ripping Republicans for kowtowing to raising government spending and the national debt, along with Democrats in the omnibus spending package, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., vowed to do what he can stay a fiscal conservative in Congress.

"It's never been my goal to shut down government," Paul told Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight." "My goal is that we should be for balanced budgets, limiting spending, less debt, and we should be for reading the bills.

". . . I'm in the minority. There will be about 10 Republicans that vote, maybe 15 Republicans vote 'no' on this in the Senate. Maybe a handful of Democrats. But they will win. The majority will win. But it's Republicans and Democrats joining hands together to blow a hole in the debt."

Sen. Paul ripped his party for attempting to jam through the $1.3 trillion omnibus this weekend.

"This is why people are so upset with politics," Paul told Carlson. "When the Republicans are out of power, they are the conservative party. But then when they get in the majority, there is no conservative party. Democrats don't care about spending any of the time. Republicans seem to care about it when they are criticizing Democrats, but now that Republicans are in charge, Republicans are like bar the door."

Paul said the omnibus is just too comprehensive to fully read in time for the vote.

"If they insist on voting, I will vote no because it spends to much, and there's just too little time to read the bill and let everyone know what's actually in it," Paul told Carlson.

A deal with Democrats on the spending bill represents "an unholy alliance," according to Paul.

"[Republicans] want unlimited spending on the military," Paul told Carlson. "Democrats will say we will give it to you: 'We are not really opposed to it. We will give you military spending, if you give us domestic spending.'

"The unholy compromise has been going on for decades. We have too much compromise in Washington. They always compromise to raise spending and increase the debt."
