President Donald Trump said Friday he’d “keep the rallies going” if he’s elected to a second term, even if that means he isn’t eligible for reelection in 2024.
Addressing a crowed at the “Opportunity Now Summit” in North Carolina, the president was touting January’s newly released job numbers.
“Can you believe how fast we’re going?” he asked, and then immediately pivoted into the rally vow.
“We’ll keep the rallies going if we win,” he said. “Even when we win next time, we’ll do rallies.”
A clip of the remark from CSPAN2 was posted by Mediaite.
Trump then just as quickly returned to praising a strong economy reflected in the January jobs report that showed the addition of 225,000 jobs, higher than the forecasted 164,000 jobs for the month.
Trump’s overall speech itself was similar to his campaign-style rallies – even encouraging the crowd to take note of “all the fake news back there." At one point the crowd chanted “four more years,” The Hill reported.
Though any future rallies wouldn’t serve the aim of keeping him in the White House, rallies could be useful for driving the news cycle and putting pressure on Trump’s political allies and rivals, The Hill noted.
