Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday that CNN is a "propaganda network" that should be banned from the White House.
Gingrich appeared on Fox News' "The Story with Martha MacCallum" and was asked why he believes CNN should no longer be allowed into the White House briefing room.
"When Harvard reports that a network is 93 percent negative, they are not a news network; they're an attack network," Gingrich said. "Why play with them as though they are serious? These people find excuses, they have talking points to attack Donald Trump all day, every day. [Emmanuel] Macron, the new president of France, just kicked two networks out because he said they were propaganda networks.
"I regard CNN as a propaganda network. Why let them into the White House?"
MacCallum then pointed out the Obama administration threatened to do the same to Fox News, a threat that never came true.
"I don't think Fox News is ever anywhere close to 93 percent negative" Gingrich said, comparing Fox News with CNN. "I actually think we are remarkably fair and balanced. I think that's the difference.
"Explain to me why – if you look at a reporter who you know nine times out of 10 is going to be negative – why would you allow them to ask a question? What good does it possibly serve the president?"
The aforementioned Harvard study looked at news of the president during his first 100 days in office. Ninety-three percent of the Trump stories on CNN and NBC were rated as negative.
