A progressive veterans group is putting on a 5K race in the nation's capital in response to the canceled military parade, but the nonprofit organization took a shot at President Donald Trump while announcing the event.
VoteVets.org said on Twitter it will hold the race around the National Mall on Veterans Day 2019.
"FYI: VoteVets has submitted a Letter of Intent, with DC, to do a 5K around the National Mall, for Veterans Day 2019," the tweet reads. "So, unless he kicks out a veterans race, @realDonaldTrump will not get his ego parade there, on that day next year, either. #NoTrumpParade."
Trump said Friday he is canceling the planned military parade that was slated to roll through Washington, D.C., because of a high price tag. The Pentagon indicated Thursday that it was looking at options with the White House to hold the parade next year.
A HuffPost reporter posted a message she received from VoteVets.org on her Twitter feed Friday morning, which referenced the five times Trump was given a military draft deferment during the Vietnam War.
"One K each for each of [Trump's] deferments," the message reads, in part. "And we'll do it to raise money for a good cause like eradicating veterans' homelessness."
