Priebus: Immigration Reform 'Will Take a Lot of Work' Within GOP

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says there is "diverse opinion" within the party on immigration issues and it will take a "whole lot of work" to craft an immigration-reform bill.

Discussing the Senate immigration bill that has moved out of committee, Priebus tells Newsmax TV: "There's a big discussion happening even today on the bill and there are different interests involved.

"We want to make sure that we've got secured borders and that we don’t end up in a situation where three years from now or five years from now we're debating whether 14 years is too long or five years of back taxes is too much and then we're negotiating against ourselves. And if you don’t have a secure border, then that's a big problem.

"So all of those things are still being worked out. It's important to know that Marco Rubio has really been quite a leader here, but others have important voices, too.

"We have a diverse caucus and it's taking on all of these issues intelligently. There's diverse opinion within our party on this issue and we're taking all of that into consideration. But when you have a Democratic-controlled Senate and a Republican-controlled House, it's going to take a whole lot of work and a whole lot of talk."
