President Donald Trump tweeted on Saturday a response to the violence that erupted in Charlottesville, Va., between protesters and counter-protesters over the "Unite the Right" rally.
"We ALL must be united & condemn all that hate stands for. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. Lets come together as one!" Trump tweeted early Saturday afternoon.
Trump added:
Violence ensued on Saturday morning as protesters clashed prior to the start of the rally. Virginia Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe issued a state of emergency, and local and state police declared the protest an unlawful assembly shortly after the violence began.
Organizers had scheduled the rally to protest Charlottesville's decision to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Protesters began to disband early Saturday afternoon.
