USA Today Poll: Clinton Leads by 9 Points Nationally

Hillary Clinton is ahead of Donald Trump by nine points nationally according to a USA Today/Suffolk University poll released Wednesday afternoon.

The results:

• Clinton: 47 percent;
• Trump: 38 percent;
• Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson 4 percent;
• Green Party nominee Jill Stein 2 percent;
• Undecided: 7 percent;
• Refused to answer: 2 percent.

Fifty-six percent of voters polled said the emails released by WikiLeaks showing ties between the Clinton foundation, foreign countries and the State Department while Clinton was secretary of state raise questions about a conflict of interest. And close to 31 percent expressed concerns about the possibility of violence on Election Day or afterward.

Of the 1,000 polled, 38 percent described themselves as Democrats, 32 as Republican and 24 as Independent. Most stated they felt alarmed about this presidential election, about 56 percent, while 54 said they felt the country was on the wrong track.

But 30 percent said, if Clinton were to win the election Nov. 8, they would be satisfied with the pick. Forty-two percent said they would be scared if Trump were to win.

The survey was conducted between Oct. 20-24 and based on telephone interviews with 1,000 likely voters across the United States. The margin of sampling error for results based on the total sampling is +/-3 percentage points.
