Fox Poll: Most Voters Want Obama to 'Lock Himself in a Room' With GOP

By    |   Wednesday, 07 August 2013 09:25 PM EDT

President Barack Obama’s recent series of speeches on the economy hasn’t won over American voters, according to a new survey from Fox News.

“A just-released Fox News poll finds they think the president isn’t offering any new economic ideas, and he would help the country more by staying in the nation’s capital and working with Republicans,” the network reports.

“In addition, 52 percent of voters disapprove of the job Obama is doing — matching his previous record high disapproval in September 2010,” the report said. “His approval rating also takes a hit this week: 42 percent approve, down from 46 percent at the end of last month (July 21-23, 2013).”

Some 71 percent — or more than three times as many voters who believe the president is offering new ideas to boost the economy, say his recent speeches offer no new solutions to America’s economic problems.

Most of those surveyed — some 63 percent — would prefer to see the president “lock himself in a room with Republicans” to find a way forward.

“That’s up from 59 percent who felt that way in February,” said Fox. “Twenty-four percent think Obama should travel and make speeches about his policies to voters instead.”
The poll was conducted from Aug. 3-5 with a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.
