Less than a third of registered voters in New York favor a presidential bid by either Gov. Andrew Cuomo or Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
Here are the highlights from the New York survey released Wednesday:
- 28 percent said they would like to see Cuomo, a Democrat, run for president in 2020, compared to 63 percent who do not want him to enter the race
- 28 percent favored a presidential bid by Democrat Gillibrand, while 58 percent did not
- 50 percent said they would be inclined to re-elect Cuomo as governor in 2018, while 40 percent were opposed
- 55 percent would be inclined to re-elect Gillibrand to the Senate in 2018, compared to 31 percent who said they would not
The poll also revealed that only 9 percent of Republicans are able to correctly name any GOP candidate running for governor.
The rest of the poll breaks down like this:
- 30 percent of New York voters approve of the job President Donald Trump is doing, compared to 65 percent who do not
- 47 percent approve of the job Cuomo is doing, while 37 percent disapprove
- 52 percent approve of the way Gillibrand is handling her job, compared to 27 percent who don’t
- 53 percent approve of the job Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer is doing, compared to 35 percent who disapprove
The poll, conducted Feb. 9-12, surveyed 1,038 New York voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
