Kasich Gets Good News, Bad News in New Poll

By    |   Tuesday, 11 December 2012 12:07 PM EST

Ohio Gov. John Kasich got some good news and bad news in the latest Quinnipiac University poll, which gave him his strongest job approval rating yet but also a thumbs down to a second term.

The poll, released Monday, also showed former Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland, who lost a close race to Kasich in 2010, has the best numbers of any potential challenger to the Republican in 2014,  reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. But the newspaper noted that Strickland’s 41 percent favorable rating comes primarily from the fact that he's well-known.

Out of 1,165 registered Ohio voters surveyed by Quinnipiac,  42 percent approved of Kasich’s performance in office so far and 35 percent disapproved. It was the first positive numbers for Kasich since taking office.

But at the same time, 43 percent of the survey respondents said the Kasich doesn’t deserve a second term, compared to 36 percent who said he does.

The respondents also indicated that they would like to see a primary challenge to Kasich, with 44 percent saying someone within his own party should run against him.
