About a third — 34% — of likely voters say the public hearings by the House select committee probing the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol have made them more likely to vote for Democrats in the midterm elections, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports.

But 30% say the hearings have made them more likely to vote Republicans. And 32% say the hearings haven't made much difference in how they'll vote in the fall.

The rest of the poll yielded other interesting results:

  • 47% believe the riot represented a threat to democracy, compared to 43% who disagreed; 10% were uncertain.
  • 51% say Biden won the election fairly; 32% said they didn't think Biden won the election fairly.
  • 65% of Republicans say they do not believe Biden was elected fairly, while 24% believe it was a fair election.
  • 18% of Democrats say they do not believe Biden was elected fairly, compared to 76% who say it was a fair election.
  • 47% of independents say they do not think the 2020 election was fair, compared to 40% who do.
  • 17% of Republicans say they have watched most of the committee's televised hearings, compared to 46% of Democrats, and 23% of independents.

The poll, conducted July 24-25, surveyed 1,000 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
