A fact-checking website has rated as "true" a biting ad released earlier this month from Priorities USA Action – a super PAC supporting Hillary Clinton – that accuses Donald Trump of cruelly mocking a disabled reporter.

The verdict by PolitiFact focused on the ad featuring a couple from Ohio talking about their disabled child.

"When I saw Donald Trump mock a disabled person, I was just shocked," the child's mother, Lauren Glaros, says in the ad.

The reference was to a Nov. 24, 2015, Trump rally in which he appeared to mimic New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski, who has a congenital condition that limits the movement of his joints.

Trump fiercely denied the accusation made by the Times at the time.

But PolitiFact declared "Trump did mimic the man’s oddly angled right hand while flailing his arms and shouting in a strange voice. Disabled people and advocates said the candidate clearly was mocking him."

The site also said Trump's explanations "are at odds with the evidence."

"Trump said he didn’t remember the man so he couldn’t know he was handicapped," the site reports. "But Kovaleski said he and Trump knew each other well because the reporter regularly covered the New York businessman for years. Archived reports support that."

"Trump’s denials that he did not mock -- or even know -- the disabled reporter don’t add up," PolitiFact concludes. "We rate the ad’s claim True."

According to its website, PolitiFact rates claims by elected officials and others who speak up in American politics; it's run by editors and reporters from the Tampa Bay Times, with state sites run by news organizations that have partnered with the Times.
