A decision by the supposedly non-partisan website PolitiFact to brand a pro-Trump group’s political ad as “mostly false” is getting blasted by the conservative website The Daily Wire, which says the fact-checking organization contradicts itself in its own analysis.

Daily Wire writer John Bickley wrote Friday that PolitiFact designated the ad “Too Risky,” produced by America First Action Super PAC, as wrong after it began airing Aug. 4.

However, he says the organization – owned by the supposed non-partisan Poynter Institute but rated as “leans left” by allsides.com – “openly acknowledges that experts have concluded that Biden’s plan will result in higher taxes in all income groups.“

“[S]ome tax experts estimate that Biden’s plan would mean higher taxes on average for all income groups,” Bickley wrote quoting the PolitiFact analysis.

At issue is that the ad shows a clip of Democratic nominee Joe Biden speaking to a group of people and telling one individual “if you elect me, your taxes are going to be raised, not cut.” PolitiFact’s branding resulted in Facebook subsequently blocking the ad.

PolitiFact’s Bill McCarthy justified his outfit’s decision by saying the exchange was “taken out context” because Biden was speaking to a person who said he benefitted from the 2017 federal tax cut, according to Fox News.

“The fact-checker subjectively accuses the PAC of not giving the audience for the 30-second ad enough ‘context’ and giving the wrong ‘impression’ about what Biden meant,” Bickley wrote.

“In other words, PolitiFact uses a Democratic talking point about the rich paying more in an attempt to distract from the fact that the ad’s claim is actually true.”

America First Communications Director Kelly said her organization is having its legal department draft letters to PolitiFact and Factcheck.org to challenge their “politically driven” analysis.

“We are going to ask them to revise their ratings based on the actual facts,” she said. “Someone needs to fact check the fact checkers.”
