Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez insisted Saturday that the Nevada caucuses would be in "great shape," and said all of the early voting results had been distributed to caucus sites, even though a source from one of the presidential campaigns said four sites did not have complete voting data.
“I think we’re on pace to set a record," Perez told Fox News before the caucuses opened. "We set a record in New Hampshire and we like to keep setting records for participation.”
Democrats in Nevada scrambled up to the last minute to avoid the debacles that took place in Iowa, including dropping an app that had been made by the same developer as a troublesomeone that plagued the Iowa caucuses.
Nevada Democrats also moved on Friday night to drop using a Google application to transmit results from precincts to party officials.
Perez pointed to the 75,000 ballots that were cast during early voting, and said the party's goal is to get results out as soon as possible while working to make sure they are accurate.,
Meanwhile, many are calling to scrap the caucus system, but Perez said he'll keep working hard to discuss with the DNC taking such a move.
"We passed some reforms that resulted in our going to from 14 caucus states in 2016 to 7 in 2020," said Perez. "We can’t wave a magic wand and require states to become a primary state because you have to pass a state law….it’s easier said than done.”
