Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., a member of the Freedom Caucus, is facing a tough reelection as he runs for a seventh term, Punchbowl News reported.
Recent polling shows Perry and former President Donald Trump trailing in the 10th Congressional District, which represents south-central Pennsylvania. Perry is trailing his Democrat challenger Janelle Stelson in fundraising, according to the report.
Perry told Punchbowl he has no plan to moderate his views to win over voters.
"When you fear God, you have nothing else to fear," Perry said Wednesday. "I don't answer to the Republican Party. I answer to the people of this district."
Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., will be campaigning for Perry Friday and the House Freedom Caucus will be launching a door knocking campaign to boost turnout.
"When you're in one of these races, you always want as much help as you can get," Perry told Punchbowl. "I'm confident that leadership is going to look at it and determine what the appropriate level of involvement is right now.
"I'm going to do the right thing every single time, regardless of where or who it came from. That's what I was elected to do … not the politically right thing, but the right thing."
Reps. Chip Roy, R-Texas and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, members of the Freedom Caucus are pushing for colleagues to donate to the House Freedom Fund in an effort to help Perry, according to Punchbowl.
A new super PAC is spending $2.3 million in TV ads to support Perry in the coming weeks, Punchbowl reported.
Perry has used his upbringing to appeal to voters, talking about how his mother raised him and his brother as a single parent. Stelson said Perry is too radical and is committed to bipartisanship.
