Pelosi: I'd Rather See Bush, Romney, or McCain; Trump Sleep Deprived

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Friday she'd rather see a handful of key Republicans in the White House rather than President Donald Trump, who she'd advise to "get some sleep."

"I was respectful with President [George W.] Bush and we worked closely with him," the former House Speaker told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program.

"I wish he was president now. I'm wishing that [Mitt] Romney was president or John McCain was president."

Pelosi, D-Calif., insisted that the United States is great and can withstand anything, and "God is always with us," so she thinks it'll survive the swirl of controversy and division, but she is concerned.

"One of the biggest divisions of the Congress of the United States is trickle-down economics verses middle class and income," said Pelosi. "Economics — that's everything you see when Republicans disagree with Trump.

"Trump is an enabler for them and they are an enabler for him for that economic principle. You know it well. They sacrifice everything on that altar."

Meanwhile, Trump needs some sleep, Pelosi said, after she was asked what she'd do if he came to her and said he has a problem with the Russian investigation and that he wants to get back to the people's business.

"Go to sleep," Pelosi said she'd tell Trump. "Get some sleep. Bring yourself to a place where your synapses are working."

For example, Pelosi said, Trump's decision in April to authorize a missile launch into Syria came during one of his late nights.

"It was like midnight," she said about a call she got from Trump about the launch. "It was well after it was all finished. He was going on and on. It was like midnight and I said, 'Why don't you go to sleep?'"

Sleep, she continued, "may be a solution for him."

"I am concerned about his fitness for office and that's really is a question," said Pelosi. "I say if you want to go work in the White House, know your blood type because he will throw you overboard in a second or under the bus."

Trump himself said earlier this year that he only sleeps about four or five hours a night, often staying up past midnight to work on projects.

Show host Joe Scarborough noted there are reports from inside the White House that claim he sleeps little, but instead watches television news programs for six hours a day, and that he's "not in a good place."

"We are not in disagreement with that," said Pelosi. "I say to my members, if you want to talk about making judgment about his presidency, you have to have the facts.

"Let's have an independent outside commission to have the facts about what the Russians try to do . . . Why would he be beholden to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to put him on a pedestal? Why would he question whether he will do sanctions and what does the Russians have personally and financially?"
