Sen. Ron Johnson Friday rejected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claims that her call for a committee to use the 25th Amendment to assess a president's capacity to remain in office was not about President Donald Trump.
"Of course this is about President Trump," the Wisconsin Republican said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "I agree with (Senate Majority Leader) Mitch McConnell. It is absurd and further proof the Democrats have never recognized the wishes of the American people when they elected Donald Trump as president in 2016."
Pelosi, while announcing her call to allow doctors and lawmakers to have input into removing a president from office, insisted that Trump will "face the judgment of the voters" rather than face ouster through a committee.
"You had people within government, in the Obama administration, who carried over into the Trump administration and completely corrupted the transition process," said Johnson. "President Trump is absolutely correct. There was no peaceful transition in 2016, and what I've tried to lay out in an op-ed in a column today is this literally was an attempted coup."
Time is running out to get to the bottom of what happened with Trump's 2016 campaign, said Johnson, and he's glad Trump is ordering all of the information about the Russia probe to be declassified.
"The problem is we don't know what documents are hidden inside these agencies because people still in these agencies are covering up and hiding them from us," said Johnson.
He also agreed that the media knows who leaked fake information about Trump to produce a false narrative about Russian collusion.
"I just want to show this is the obstruction that we're experiencing as a committee trying to get information out of these agencies," said Johnson. "If Joe Biden gets elected president this will be buried for all time. We won't know the full corruption of the transition."
