Rep. Donalds to Newsmax: Pelosi Wants to Have Outcome She's Looking for From Jan. 6 Committee

By    |   Wednesday, 21 July 2021 05:39 PM EDT

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected two GOP picks for the commission created to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol because “she wants to have the outcome she’s looking for,” Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla, told Newsmax.

Pelosi chose not to seat Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, who House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy picked to fill two of the five GOP slots.

The House in late June approved a resolution to create a select committee to probe the Jan. 6 riot under the requirement that Pelosi appoint five members “after consultation with the minority leader.”

But it also gave her final veto power over the members.

“Nancy Pelosi wants to have the outcome she’s looking for so she’s going to object to members she thinks are going to be problematic for what she thinks is important to come out of this committee. Kevin McCarthy is absolutely right in pulling everybody off because this is just playing politics with something which is tragic for our country. …" Donalds told "American Agenda". We don’t even need this committee. The Oversight Committee, the Homeland Security committee, even the Intel Committee can all do these investigations.

"The Senate already completed its investigation, and the Department of Justice is still investigating people who came into the Capitol illegally on Jan. 6. … Speaker Pelosi has been playing politics since Day 1. This is proof of that with her rejecting two members because she felt that they wouldn’t be the right kind of people to serve on the committee. It’s ridiculous,” He continued.

McCarthy called Pelosi’s rejection “an egregious abuse of power.”

"Pelosi has broken this institution. Denying the voice of members who have served in the military – Jim Banks, a Navy veteran who served in Afghanistan," McCarthy said at a press conference Wednesday. "As well as a leader of a standing committee. Jim Jordan isn't ranking of just his first committee; he's done it before."

The committee will still have a Republican representative in Liz Cheney of Wyoming.
