House Speaker Paul Ryan has endorsed Leah Vukmir in the Wisconsin Republican primary for U.S. Senate.
His comments came in a column posted Friday on Right Wisconsin.
The column was authored by both Ryan and Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, both Wisconsin Republicans.
"And while we’ve had some real successes in moving legislation to President Donald Trump’s desk, namely on tax reform, it is clear that we need more allies in the United States Senate to fully implement our agenda, as over 500 bills are still awaiting action in that chamber because of Democrat filibusters," they wrote.
"Imagine how much more we could get done if we had another pro-growth conservative in the Senate who was willing to work with us, work with Sen. Ron Johnson, and work with the president to build on the success that we’re having.
"That’s why we’re both proud to endorse Leah Vukmir to represent Wisconsin in the United States Senate."
The two noted she has been a "conservative partner among grassroots Republicans for years."
Vukmir, state senator, is hoping the endorsement by Ryan and Sensenbrenner can help her in the August primary against Marine veteran Kevin Nicholson, The Hill noted.
Nicholson has the backing of some key national conservative groups and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, according to the website.
Both Vukmir and Nicholson are battling to challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
"We’re proud to be supporting (Vukmir) in this Senate race and hope you’ll join us in voting for her to be our nominee on August 14th," Ryan and Sensenbrenner said.
