Former New York Governor and State Democratic Chairman David Paterson criticized his party’s presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for her reaction to the attorney general’s recent decision not to pursue criminal charges against her for the private email server scandal, saying it was a mistake for her to “take a victory lap” with President Barack Obama.

Appearing on
"The Cats Roundtable" Sunday radio show on AM 970 in New York, Paterson told host John Catsimatidis it would have been much more appropriate and wise for Clinton to have held a press conference and said “I’m really happy there’s no criminal charges being levied against me, but I recognize that I did a lot of things wrong. I used poor judgement and I want the voters to know that I have learned a lesson from this situation and I will never be in violation this way again.”
Paterson said this type of tone not only would have been a much better message for her but would have also helped to convince more voters about the sincerity of her taking responsibility for the situation.
Paterson had praise for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, saying that his speech at the Democratic National Convention last month was impressive and reflective of his attributes.
“The underlying message of his speech was that he can work with the Republican Party and he can get things done,” Paterson said. “And right now on the national level where we’re wondering if either of the candidates… can get any cooperation with the other party, it is refreshing to see that there’s a governor in the country right now who’s working with the other side getting a lot done.”
Paterson also predicted a challenge to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio next year, saying “he has his work cut out for him. And he’s facing a re-election challenge with his party and also outside the party”
