Palin Backers Marshal Forces, Wait for Green Light in Iowa

Thursday, 07 July 2011 03:39 PM EDT

Increasing numbers of grass-roots volunteers are hanging their stars on their hope that Sarah Palin will enter the 2012 race for the White House. Backers of the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate are gathering in Iowa to get the political ball rolling there, expecting that announcement to come at any moment, according to DailyCaller.com.

Sarah Palin, Iowa, campaign, president“Is it too late to enter the race? Absolutely not,” said Peter Singleton, who is heading up one such group, Organize4Palin. “Is there a point where it’ll be too late to enter the race? Probably. But she knows that better than I do. We’re not at that point here in Iowa.”

Singleton said his group has grown a robust network of connections, laying the groundwork for Palin there if she gives the green light.

Palin needs to make that decision sooner than later, suggests one analyst.

“The press is always looking for the bright, shiny object that distracts them and is fresh and new,” Alan Schroeder, a journalism professor at Northeastern University in New Hampshire, told the Caller. “It doesn’t take long to go from being the fresh and new thing to yesterday’s headline.”
