Ohio is asking the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling forcing the state to open early voting to all. Ohio had limited early weekend voting to members of the military but the U.S. court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit ruled that such voting must be open to all,
The Washington Post reported.
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted said in a statement that the appeals court ruling “an unprecedented intrusion by the federal courts into how states run elections and because of its impact on all 50 states as to who and how elections will be run in America we are asking the Supreme Court to step in and allow Ohioans to run Ohio elections.”
Ohio State University election law expert Daniel Tokaji told the Post that while it was hard to predict what the court may do he added, “I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s hard to see any good reason for them to take it.”
