Conservatives Unhappy With Trump's Plan for Obamacare

By    |   Wednesday, 11 October 2017 11:01 AM EDT

Outside conservative groups aren't exactly celebrating President Donald Trump's decision to use executive orders to affect changes to Obamacare, The Washington Post reports.

It's bad precedent, the details of what the president will do aren't known, but it probably won't go far enough, and - isn't this supposed to be the job of Congress, led by Republicans in both houses?

"At the end of the day there’s no substitute for legislation, so we still believe for Congress, the top priority should be to repeal Obamacare," Geoff Holtzman of Freedom Partners told the Post.

Regardless, Trump, fed up with a "Congress that can't get its act together," is expected to make changes to Obamacare this week that will expand options for individuals and small business.

Sen. Rand Paul, a big proponent of consumer choice, has been working with the president on a framework for the EO.

“Ultimately, Congress and the administration will need to deliver on their promise to repeal and replace Obamacare if we are going to have an actual consumer-oriented health insurance system,” Heritage Action spokesperson Dan Holler told the Post.

"It’s a huge disappointment, a huge letdown,” Jason Pye of FreedomWorks told the Post. “I’m very hesitant with sidestepping law. I don’t consider this a fulfillment of repeal-and-replace if it’s within the scope of existing law."
