President Barack Obama’s election campaign is trying to use Mother’s Day as a
fundraising tool. Obama supporters who attract donations from at least five other people have an opportunity to win a tweet to their mother from the president on Mother’s Day, which is Sunday.
The campaign will hold a drawing to choose a winner among those who bring home the bacon. The way it works is that Obama supporters set up a “grassroots fundraising” page on the campaign’s web site. Those who bring in at least five donations will be entered in the drawing. If the winner’s mother doesn't have a Twitter account, she’ll receive a note from the president.
“Whether or not your mom's on Twitter, here's something guaranteed to make her smile on Sunday: getting a personal shout-out from President Obama,” Rufus Gifford, the campaign’s national finance director wrote in announcing the contest on Obama’s web site.
“I know my mom, Anne, would be thrilled — and it might even inspire her to give the whole Twitter thing a try.”
