Democratic WV Governor: Obama Hasn't Earned My Vote Yet

Wednesday, 02 May 2012 04:57 PM EDT

Count Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin as another West Virginia Democrat who's keeping his distance from President Barack Obama.

Tomblin said Wednesday that neither Obama nor Republican Mitt Romney has earned his vote.

In a statement, Tomblin says Romney's positions on Medicare and Social Security would burden West Virginia families. And he criticized Obama's support for energy policies that do not favor coal, the backbone of West Virginia's economy.

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin has taken a similar stance as Obama, who is unpopular in the state, seeks a second term.

Manchin preceded Tomblin as governor. Both face low-profile opponents in the state's primary election next Tuesday.
