Though she has said she has no intention to run for office, First Lady Michelle Obama leads Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk in a hypothetical 2016 race, according to a new survey from Public Policy Polling
The PPP poll found that if she were to throw her name out there to run, she’d be leading the first-term Kirk 51 percent to 40 percent.
Over the course of the last few years, and especially the 2012 presidential election, Obama has repeatedly stated that she does not want to run and has no expectation that the answer will change.
"Absolutely not," Obama said at an event in April. "I think one of the things you learn about yourself as you get older are what are your strengths and what are your interests. And for me it’s other stuff that is not being the President. So I probably won’t run."
South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn told the Daily Beast that he would like to see her do it because of the effect she could have on Washington.
“I’d love to see her get more into politics because it would be a breath of fresh air in D.C.,” Clyburn said. “She’s honest and straightforward, which is not what you see in Washington much. She is exactly what we need around here.”
