Poll: Biggest Budget Issue is Job Creation

Monday, 13 February 2012 03:56 PM EST

Job creation is job one in the budget, according to a plurality of likely voters in a new poll from The Hill.

The survey shows that 45 percent of respondents believe the fiscal 2013 budget, released by President Barack Obama Monday, should target job creation as its primary focus, while 40 percent think it spending reductions should represent the center of attention.

Among Republicans, 61 percent chose cutting spending, and 33 percent selected job creation. Among Democrats, 63 percent opted for job creation and 16 percent opted for spending cuts. Among independents, 43 percent favored spending cuts, compared to 40 percent for job creation. That 3 percentage point difference matches the poll’s margin of error.
