The 26th District congressional seat in New York has been vacant since Feb. 9, when GOP
Rep. Chris Lee left the House. Republican leaders in the district have now chosen a candidate for the special election to fill the seat -- state Assemblywoman Jane Corwin,
The Hill reports.
Corwin says in a statement that she was "humbled" by her selection and emphasizes her rating as the "the second most conservative member" of the state Assembly by the New York State Conservative Party.
New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has until March 11 to call a special election. Lee resigned after Gawker.com reported that the married lawmaker solicited a romantic encounter over the web, sending the woman a photo of himself in which he wasn’t wearing a shirt.
