President-elect Donald Trump should suspend CNN reporter Jim Acosta from covering him after he stood up and argued with Trump during Wednesday's press conference, says Trump adviser Newt Gingrich.
"In baseball, hockey, basketball, if certain players behave inappropriately, you kick them out of the game," Gingrich said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."
"I think the way Acosta behaved for CNN, have him suspended for 60 days. Send someone else," Gingrich said.
Other reporters should be sent a message there are limits, he said. "When you get beyond those limits, you ain't going to be there. They shouldn't put up with this. It's bad for the country."
Gingrich also suggested rotating which members of the press get to ask questions.
"There are 500-some members of the White House press corps," he said, but only about a half-dozen dominate the questioning every day.
Trump also should use social media to take questions directly from the American people, Gingrich suggested.
The dust-up between Acosta and Trump occurred when the president-elect criticized CNN for airing a story on an unverified dossier on him that was produced by a former British spy for a private company. It purported to contain embarrassing information on Trump, which Trump said was put together by "sick people."
Acosta attempted to ask Trump a question since Trump had attacked his new organization, but Trump repeatedly rebuffed him, telling him he was being "rude" and that CNN was "fake news."
