House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told Newsmax that the congressional GOP's Commitment to America agenda serves as "a plan for a new direction."
During a Wednesday interview on "Spicer & Co.," the California Republican walked through the plan's distinction from previous conservative pledges and how it provides a sharp contrast to the Biden administration.
"We talk about an economy that's strong, a nation that's safe, a future built on freedom and a government that's accountable," McCarthy said. "Under each of those topics are the different things we'll do."
"An economy that's strong: Make us energy independent; lower the gas price; stop this runaway spending that's causing inflation; bring supply chains back from China to America," he said.
The Republican leader defined "a nation that's safe" as securing the southern border, stopping fentanyl from coming over the border, increasing police presence in crime-ridden areas and removing prosecutors who refuse to enforce punishments.
"Future that's built on freedom: We do a parents' bill of rights, so you have a say in your kid's education," McCarthy stated, adding that "a government that's accountable" means holding intelligence agencies accountable for targeting Americans.
"Why did the [Department of Justice] go after parents and call them terrorists when they went to school board meetings?" the leader asked. "Where did the origins of COVID actually begin? What happened in Afghanistan? ... that's just the beginning."
McCarthy said that Republicans would use "every tool possible" if they win back a chamber come the November midterm elections, describing the type of legislative and oversight capabilities available in power.
"There's a number of things we can do. We have 12 appropriation bills where we can put our writers in, we could use the resources in. You also have the ability for a Congressional Review Act where you can repeal the regulations that the administration does, in a certain timeframe, with a simple 51 votes.
"We have reconciliation to put bills on the president's desk." he continued. "But what we're really going to need is you, the viewer ... because the Commitment to America is about you, the viewer. Not about Washington."
