A New Hampshire senator has become the first superdelegate from the state to support Bernie Sanders.

According to NH1 News, state Sen. Martha Fuller Clark announced Thursday she will switch from being neutral in the Democratic presidential race to backing Sanders, a senator from Vermont.

Fuller Clark also happens to be the vice chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

"The reason I'm doing it now is because the DNC has informed me that I cannot stay neutral until the convention," Fuller Clark told NH1 News.

As for supporting Sanders, Fuller Clark said, "the reason for that first and foremost is that we saw that 60 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary went for Bernie, 70 percent of the voters in my district went for Bernie. And I feel obligated to support that vote at the convention."

New Hampshire has eight superdelegates on offer for Democrats in the presidential race, and six of them are supporters of Hillary Clinton. The remaining superdelegate, New Hampshire Democratic Party chairman Ray Buckley, will reportedly stay neutral until next month's convention.

Sanders trails Clinton in the delegate vote but has picked up a handful of superdelegates over the past week, reports Politico.
