Nate Silver: Crist Has 'Slight' Edge to Beat Fla. Gov. Scott

Monday, 03 November 2014 02:30 PM EST

Political analyst Nate Silver says his data shows that Democrat Charlie Crist is a "slight" favorite to beat Republican Gov. Rick Scott in the Florida race Tuesday.

Silver, who correctly forecast the 2012 elections, including Florida, revealed on his website, FiveThirtyEight.com, that Crist has a 60 percent chance of winning.

"Charlie Crist of Florida, the former Republican-turned-Democrat, is just slightly more likely than not to oust Republican Gov. Rick Scott from office," Silver wrote.

"A slightly safer bet for a Democratic pickup is in Kansas, where Paul Davis has an 81 percent chance of beating Republican incumbent [Gov.] Sam Brownback."

Silver's prediction follows a poll by Quinnipiac University that shows the Florida governor's race is too close to call, with Crist receiving 42 percent of votes and the Republican incumbent with 41 percent.
